Finland’s leading technical building services company Are expands into Sweden
Finnish family business Are expands into Sweden by acquiring the leading plumbing contracting and servicing company in the Göteborg area, Kungälvs Rörläggeri. The acquisition and the addition of 240 professionals will make Are a significant technical building services company in the Göteborg area. “We are very impressed by the expertise of the Kungälvs Rörläggeri personnel and our goal is to continue strong strategic growth in Sweden. In the future, we want to offer the full range of technical building services for the entire property life-cycle in Sweden as well”, explains Are’s CEO Heikki Pesu.
Technical building services company Are has invested in long-term profitable growth. With the acquisition of Lemminkäinen Talotekniikka Oy in 2014, Are’s combined staff and turnover more than doubled. Are now employs nearly 3,000 persons in 25 locations in Finland and Russia, St. Petersburg. The company’s service offering covers the entire technical building services from the planning stage to implementation, deployment, ongoing maintenance and modernization.
During the past few years, Kungälvs Rörläggeri has grown its operations and expanded into new areas, including Stockholm and Malmö. Kungälvs Rörläggeri now operates in seven different regions in Sweden and currently employs around 240 professionals. In addition to robust plumbing expertise, Kungälvs Rörläggeri’s operations also include Inter EI AB, an electrical contracting and servicing company which has around 20 employees and operates in the Göteborg area.
Both companies have in common their family-based entrepreneurship and a long, successful history. Are has operated in Finland for 105 years, while Kungälvs Rörläggeri has operated in Sweden for 85 years.
Are’s CEO Heikki Pesu emphasises that the acquisition will not have any impact on personnel, nor will it bring any changes to the management currently in place. Kungälvs Rörläggeri will continue to be led from Sweden.
“For us, it was important to have an owner who wants to build and develop our operations for the long term and with an eye on local conditions. As a family business, Are understands our values. Together, Are and Kungälvs Rörläggeri will develop to become a significant player within their field in the Nordic region, and this will open up new opportunities for both our staff and our customers”, states board member Thomas Andersson of Kungälvs Rörläggeri.
“I am very happy that we have the opportunity to continue our growth alongside Are. We will need plenty of new people and skills as our operations continue to grow”, reports Kungälvs Rörläggeri’s CEO Ulf Andersson.
Kungälvs Rörläggeri continues to operate as an independent part of the Are Group. In 2017, Kungälvs Rörläggeri’s turnover was approximately €46 million. Are’s total turnover in 2017 amounted to €398 million. The companies’ combined turnover for 2018 is expected to be around €460 million. Are is a Finnish family business and part of the Conficap Group.
